Floaters are deposits of various size, shape, consistency, refractive index, and motility within the eye’s vitreous humour, which is normally transparent. At a young age the vitreous is perfectly transparent but, during life, imperfections gradually develop. The common type of floater, which is present in most people’s eyes, is due to degenerative changes of the vitreous humour. The perception of floaters is known as myodesopsia. Floaters are visible because of the shadows they cast on the retina or their refraction of the light that passes through them, and can appear alone or together with several others in one’s field of vision. They may appear as spots, threads, or fragments of cobwebs, which float slowly before the observer’s eyes. Since these objects exist within the eye itself, they are not optical illusions but are entoptic phenomena.

There are two very large and influential prison companies in the United States who are manipulating the system to make sure they have plenty of business: The GEO Group (formerly Wackenhut) and Corrections Corporation of America (CCA). In the first part of this two-part series, I will explore The GEO Group’s influence peddling; next week, I will look at CCA.
If you have any doubt in your mind that improving society and lowering the number of prisoners in our country (normally considered a worthy social goal) is a threat to the prison industry business, all you need to do is to read about that concern in The GEO Group’s 2011 annual report:
In particular, the demand for our correctional and detention facilities and services and BI’s [a prison industry company Geo acquired in 2011] services could be adversely affected by changes in existing criminal or immigration laws, crime rates in jurisdictions in which we operate, the relaxation of criminal or immigration enforcement efforts, leniency in conviction, sentencing or deportation practices, and the decriminalization of certain activities that are currently proscribed by criminal laws or the loosening of immigration laws. For example, any changes with respect to the decriminalization of drugs and controlled substances could affect the number of persons arrested, convicted, sentenced and incarcerated, thereby potentially reducing demand for correctional facilities to house them. Similarly, reductions in crime rates could lead to reductions in arrests, convictions and sentences requiring incarceration at correctional facilities. Immigration reform laws which are currently a focus for legislators and politicians at the federal, state and local level also could materially adversely impact us.
This is an industry that needs misery, long sentences, rounded-up undocumented immigrants and increasing crime to flourish. In order to keep the prison beds filled, The GEO Group and others have paid out millions of dollars to lobbyists, federal and state legislators, and governors to allow our immigration problem to go unsolved, to make sure that no drugs are decriminalized and that an ineffective War on Drugs continues, and to make certain that long term prison sentences, like California’s three-strikes-and-you’re-imprisoned-for-life laws, keep a steady flow of revenue and profits flowing to their shareholders. They are also hoping that our national drop in crime is just a temporary trend.
That is absolutely disgusting. Before reading this, I did not even know that prisons could be privately run (all prisons in my country are run by the state) - that is downright repulsive, and as the article proves, bad for both the prisoners, public finances, and society at large.

In 1980 Ronald Reagan was swept into office be an unholy alliance of fundamentalist theocratic Christians, mentally ill anti-communist paranoid paramilitarists, CIA/NSA and ex CIA/NSA operatives (like Oliver North, William Casey and George H. W. Bush) and super rich self described “conservatives” such as the Joseph Coors, T. Cullen Davis and Richard Melon Scaife. It was this shadowy alliance that launched the first boulders that became the economic avalanche that has buried the poor and middle class. May history and historians never forget this fact.
This letter was delivered to a Sikh American family in Sterling, VA. A community very close to where I live. Close to Washington DC. An area with a lot of Muslims, and Arabs and South Asians. An area that is supposed to be tolerant. An area that is filled with many government officials. I can’t help but wonder if someone who works in the government and lives in Sterling wrote that letter.
Islamophobia affects us all. And worst of all, it affects people who are not even Muslim. Although they are not Muslim, they are being targeted because of the way they look. This was meant for us. To anyone who thinks Islamophobia is dead, it’s not.

These are photos of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation: An Oglala Sioux Native American reservation located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. Here men, women and children are forced to live in appalling poverty stricken conditions because of the neglect and ignorance of the Government whose members live in luxury while these people struggle in cramped conditions with little food and no running water. Many are unaware of this and others just choose to turn a blind eye but we need to get the truth out there and encourage more and more people worldwide to speak out against this as it’s completely disgusting and unacceptable for the U.S in today’s modern society. My sister spent a week up that this exact reservation and what she told me and the pictures she showed me matches up with this. The ones I’ve seen in Arizona and Utah look like and sound like this too. It’s no exaggeration.
Native American reservations are by far the most poverty stricken communities in the entire country and represent a massive scar in American history. Yes, most American citizen have no clue about how bad these living conditions are unless they live near a reservation.
